Even at the original CRC estimate of $2.30 bridge toll, Portland working commuters
will pay $1,350 per year on tolls, after taxes. (The Columbian, Friday, June 5 2009)
Portland commuters will need to have a $1,650 annual raise to cover the cost of
the new tolls. $7.80/trip = $5000+/annual raise to pay for toll fees.
The light rail portion will put two parking lots (560 + spaces) in downtown Vancouver,
harming the integrity of the community and causing even more congestion, downtown.
Light rail will be operating as late as 1:00A.M through neighborhoods (per: Carley,
CRC employee, Hough Neighborhood Assoc. meeting, 6/15/09), causing concerns about
crime and noise.
Light rail will end at Clark College. (Potential crime to college/high school students)
It will be years, if ever, that light rail will go beyond Clark College.
High Peak toll fees financially penalize the very people the new bridge is supposed
to be helping… Commuting Workers!
It is unlikely that Oregon will give commuters an income tax break – their legislature
has just increased a variety of taxes.
Want to take I-205 to get away from the tolls? Great idea, but…CRC needs to toll
I-205 to stop motorists from taking it as a way to escape the I-5 heavy toll. Also,
they need it for the additional revenue. Without 1-205 tolling, I-5 tolls could
go as high as $10 to repay the 30 year bonds. (Paul Edgar) Look at your kids. When
they are having your grandkids, they will still be paying tolls. if some Portland
officials get their way, these tolls will remain in perpetuity
